The Details
Essential Roof Waterproofing Solutions for South Africa’s Diverse Climate
South Africa’s varied climate, which spans from the humid coastal regions to the dry, arid inland areas, makes roof waterproofing necessary. Roofs are vulnerable to leaks, moisture-related damage, and long-term structural deterioration without proper waterproofing.
To combat these challenges, several waterproofing methods are commonly used. Bitumen membranes provide a durable and reliable barrier against water infiltration, while liquid-applied coatings offer versatility and seamless application. Fibreglass-reinforced systems are another popular choice, combining strength and resistance to wear and tear.
However, even the best waterproofing systems require regular care to perform effectively. Routine inspections and timely repairs are critical to maintaining the integrity and longevity of these protective measures. By staying proactive with maintenance, homeowners and property managers can ensure their roofs remain safeguarded against the elements for years to come.
Scope of work completed on this project
- Removed and replaced cracked and broken roof tiles.
- No barge boards to prevent water penetration.
- Install and counter flash onto roof tiles.
- Due to roof tiles being laid virtually flat, this is allowing water to stream into the Kitchen.
- Removed tiles and lay down 23mm ply boards onto rafters.
- Heat fused a 4mm torch-on onto ply boards and allow 500mm under tiles.
- Counter flashed the system onto garage roof to prevent return waterflow.
- Repaired all gutter joints.
- Replaced the missing corrugated polycarbonate roof sheets.
